After another ripper year we're straight back into planning for 2012 but here's our highlights for 2011...
Our opening night was brilliant. A fantastic film, drinks flowing freely and live music from members of Bridezilla and The Decoder Ring - well it was a great launch but mighty hard for us to drag ourselves out of bed on Friday morning.
In terms of things during the festival, we had what we believe to be our best line-up of guests to date. They had a fantastic time and really earned their money but in terms of special moments, the live performance against the film Gravity Was Everywhere Back Then was most excellent. A beautiful film to be seen on the huge Astor screen and something to be hear through monster Astor sound system, it was performance that will stay with the audience for a long time.
Then of course there was Terry McMahon with his film Charlie Casanova. Rarely without a beer in his hand, Terry's Q&A's were among the best we've ever had or heard anywhere in the world. The way he spun his film into many different directions was simply gripping to listening. Politics, art and personal opinion it was really great stuff...quite potent.
Then of course there was Joe Davis. Once he discovered The Moon Cafe you couldn't get him or his peg-leg out until the very early hours of the morning. We need people like Joe on the planet and in Perth and his Q&A with Heaven and Earth and Joe Davis was fascinating to be part of.
We also had the pleasure of hosting a gathering of local industry to coincide with Screen Australia's board meeting in WA. After an address from their chairman, there was drinks all round in the Astor bar - which seemed to go on for an awfully long time (which is fine by us).
The Revelation Travel Fellowship provides the opportunity for three emerging filmmakers to attend Rev for the duration as our guests. Our Travel Fellowship 2011 recipients got the most out of the scheme throughout the event - I'm not sure if they actually ever went to bed and we hope the rash has cleared up Jason - but there was most certainly a side of the industry exposed that's rarely seen from the outside. Stay tuned for more Travel Fellowship details in the weeks to come when we launch the 2012 scheme.
We had a blast, our guests had a blast and we hope you did too.
