To most people, Seattle is simply known as the home of grunge.  But Wheedle's Groove unearths a very different aspect to the North Western city's musical history: soul and funk.  Largely forgotten by the end of the seventies, save by a handful of soul music aficionados and funk stalwarts, the city's soul musical legacy is finally given the respect it clearly deserved thanks to Jennifer Maas' absorbing documentary.

Mixing archive performance footage with interviews with the musicians, fans, collectors and djs, the story of the Seattle soul scene is one of the great hidden tales of music.  Even Quincy Jones weighs in on spending his formative years in Seattle.  There's some incredible bands on show here  - including the Black on White Affair and the Soul Swingers - who cut burning hot grooves and played extensively in the clubs of the largely African American Central District throughout the sixties and early seventies.  Collectors regularly stump up thousands for some of the ultra hard-to-find vinyl from these bands, and watching this movie it's easy to see why.

Director Jennifer Maas will introduce and answer questions following the screenings.
